After twenty years serving the community, CVS Drugs is set to close a popular Carefree store located at Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Roads. The last day in business will be May 22, 2023.
Originally built in 2003 at 5400 E. Carefree Highway on 2.75 acres as a Eckerd Drugs which never opened, CVS leased the building two decades ago, and recently lost their lease. The property was sold in 2019 for 5.75 million, and is owned by an entity called Carefree SFT LLC whose mailing address is 625 W. Deer Valley Road in Phoenix. It is unknown what the new owners plans are for the property.
Eckerd Drugs was an American drug store chain that was originally headquartered in Largo, Florida, and later in Warwick, Rhode Island. The chain had approximately 2,800 stores in 23 states as far west as Arizona. In November 1996, Eckerd drugs was purchased in 2006 by JCPenney, and they ceased operations in 2007.
CVS Pharmacy is the largest pharmacy chain in the United States with nearly 10,000 stores. The next closest CVS for Creekers is located at Tatum and Dynamite Blvd.
